Eastlake Student becomes Police Officer for a Day

I recently teamed up with the Parsippany Police Department for the department’s second “Officer for a Day” training on August 30th. The lucky student who participated in this adventure was 11-year-old Patrick Turo who won the honor at an a Eastlake Elementary School tricky tray event.

Patrick received a comprehensive hands-on experience on what it is like to be a police officer. Specifically, Patrick learned about the many disciplines First Aid Officers are trained in; how to handcuff a “suspect”; the different types of illegal drugs; and the procedures of a mock investigation with Detective Puso. Patrick also experienced a mock motor vehicle stop and toured the Par-Troy EMS ambulance and learned exactly what emergency medical technicians do.

Patrick did so well throughout his professional training that he received multiple promotions from Patrol Officer, to Detective, then finally to Chief of Police!

So much hard work goes into providing this once-in-a-lifetime experience for our youth. A special thank you to all who make this training possible including: Chief of Police Paul Philipps, Det. Sgt. J. Puso, Sgt. A. Griffin, Sgt. E. Kinsey, Patrol Officer B. Conover, Patrol Officer R D’Alessandro, Par-Troy EMS Chief D. Snook and EMT V. Soszynski. Your dedication to our township is deeply appreciated.
