Parsippany, NJ – On April 6, 2017 Eastlake Elementary School on 40 Eba Road celebrated its 50th Anniversary. The Parsippany – Troy Hills Board of Education acquired the property on December 13, 1966 and the School officially opened in 1967.
In attendance were retired Eastlake teachers and present Eastlake teachers who joined in to celebrate the 50th Anniversary. Also in attendance was former Eastlake student, Mayor James Barberio who welcomed the opportunity to return to his alma mater on April 6th to help them celebrate their 50th anniversary. When Eastlake opened in 1967, Mayor Barberio was in the first class to occupy the school led by principal, Andy Klein. In a statement from Mayor Barberio; “Today brought back many wonderful memories I had at Eastlake School during my childhood. I made many wonderful friends and Eastlake will always have a special place in my heart.”
In commemoration of this momentous occasion, the Eastlake band and all of the students from pre-K through fifth grade performed for the audience. Plans included the opening of the time capsule that was buried in 1992 and which will be replaced with items indicative of today’s society, to be opened in 2042. Mayor Barberio presented principal, Bryan Hershkowitz, with a proclamation wishing Eastlake continued success and fulfillment in the years to come.
