Mayor Barberio welcomed Sheriff Gannon and the Hope One Van to Parsippany. Like Mayor Barberio, Sheriff Gannon is intent on fighting the problem of drug addiction. As members of the Morris Area Coalition for Education and Positive Choices, they have reached out to the public to join forces in the fight against drug addiction and substance abuse.
With drug forfeiture money, Sheriff Gannon was able to retro-fit the van and name it the Hope One Van. The van travels through towns in Morris County offering services to those who are addicted. It will also frequent areas where people are vulnerable to drug addiction. The project is co-sponsored by Morris County Human Services and Morris County Center for Addiction Recovery Education and Success (CARES). Mayor Barberio and Sheriff Gannon were interviewed by Verizon.net with the hope of publicizing this wonderful program. Both the Mayor and the Sheriff were practicing the administration of NARCAN on a dummy. The program is compassionate in that it provides resources for treatment and recovery and provides all kinds of support services without judgment. There should be no fear in approaching the van. It could be the first step to recovery.
