Parsippany Police Explorers held Fundraiser Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s

On Saturday, March 11, 2017 The Parsippany Police Explorers held a Pancake Breakfast to raise money for the program.

Explorer posts are part of a nationwide program backed by the Boy Scouts of America to allow youth to gain familiarity with various careers or professions.

Law Enforcement Exploring is a hands-on program open to young men and women who are interested in a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system.

The program offers young adults a personal awareness of the criminal justice system through training, practical experiences, competition, and other activities. Additionally, the program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship and patriotism.

Mayor James Barberio re-established Explorer program back in 2016. Mayor Barberio said; “I made a decision to invest in our youth in the community, but also it’s an investment in the Police Department.

PELUSO VOTED NO TO THE EXPLORER PROGRAM

Council members who supported the Explorers program are Council President Lou Valori, Councilman Michael dePierro and Councilwoman Loretta Gragnani. The only no vote was Council Vice President Robert Peluso. In a statement by Mayor Barberio; “What I find disturbing is that Mr. Peluso votes no on the Explorers program but comes to the event to take pictures. I find that very disingenuous!”

Former Councilman and Council Candidate Vincent Ferrara also attended the event to support the program.

The Police Department stands to gain in several ways. Interacting with youth is a valuable outreach tool. Participation in the Explorer post is an opportunity for youth to learn positive habits and behavior and learn more about the consequences of poor decisions. And interacting with youth in a positive setting is a window to improved relations with the broader community.
